Commander in Chief

Lincoln was a great Commander in Chief, he was not afraid to take chances for his country.
War was a major concern during his presidency, the Civil war took place at this time.

  • He gave overall command to Ulysses S. Grant because he felt that he had more knowledge on war issues. However, Lincoln still was involved with all decisions.
  • He didn't discriminate during war times because he said it was a "military necessity"
  • He gave equal military appointments between Republicans and Democrats
  • Eventually on April 9, 1865 the confederate Army surrendered
